Do Antibiotics and Booze Mix?

I have an infection and will still be taking antibiotics on my wedding day. Is it safe to drink while on this medication?

Rule of thumb: Booze and medication don’t mix. Certain drugs can react with alcohol to cause stomach irritation, headaches, nausea, and in some cases more serious side effects. Some antibiotics, including erythromycin, can make you quite ill if you have a few cocktails, which doesn’t make a pretty wedding picture. But don’t even think about skipping your medication in favor of a few celebratory glasses of champagne (sorry!).

If you stop taking your antibiotics before finishing the full course, or if you take the medication irregularly, the infection may return or may become more difficult to treat. ”Every day your infection goes untreated, the risk of it causing more serious complications increases—and this can have long-term consequences. So, for now, make your toast with a little bubbly Sprite.
