Can Zits
Be Stopped?
How can I prevent a breakout before
the wedding?
To stay zit-free, keep your pores as clear as possible. You
can either exfoliate at home with a scrub like Calvin Klein
Micro-Exfoliator or use an alpha hydroxy lotion post-cleansing.
Dr. Lancer says to look for a lotion that contains 12 percent
AHA, such as Formulations Facial Lotion.
If you're looking to step up your pre-wedding exfoliation,
try Dr. Lancer's favorite professional strategy: micro-dermabrasion,
which can be done by a doctor or esthetician. Ultrafine crystals
(either aluminum or salt) are sprayed over the face, then
vacuumed away along with pore-clogging debris. The best results
come from weekly treatments started two or three months beforehand.
And while you're at it, remain calm (as if!). Stress causes
the body to produce androgens—male hormones that increase
sebum production, which in turn clogs pores. If it's determined
that pesky male hormones are causing your flareups, a round
of Aldactone—an orally administered antiandrogen—may
be just what the doctor ordered to cut down on oily-skin woes.
