How Do I
Get Natural Highlights?
I wanted to get highlights but am nervous
that disastrous results will ruin my carefully planned look.
Are there any precautions I can take to ensure a sun-kissed
appearance?
Subtle highlights are a great way to enhance your allure by
making your hair look multi-dimensional and brightening both
your skin tone and eye color. "If you are getting married
and have never had highlights before, you should look for
someone who does natural, fine highlights.
As with all your wedding day preparation, the first step
is to find a colorist with your vision. Get recommendations
from friends, family and co-workers with highlights you envy,
and meet with the prospective colorist to discuss your desires
and hear any recommendations he or she may have. Listen to
what the colorist suggests-after all this is his business
and he knows what works-but don't be dissuaded from what you
want into something outlandish.
Finally, we suggests you have the highlights done at least
two weeks before the wedding. Color looks better after the
first couple of weeks, and this waiting period allows enough
time to get used to the added color and, if you don't like
it, have it fixed. To showcase your new look, have at least
some of your photos taken outside, where the color will shimmer
in the sunlight.
