Wedding anxiety making you crazy? Regain your sanity with
these healthy habits.
Order the cake, choose the flowers, sign the contracts,
make the favors...if you're planning a wedding, you probably
have a to-do list longer than the Great Wall of China. Add
these tasks to your everyday responsibilities, and without
the proper stress prevention you'll be on your way to a meltdown.
Fortunately, there are ways to stay happy and healthy while
planning your wedding. Here's how:
Put it in perspective. "Any unfamiliar experience
is stressful,"Sometimes sitting down and talking to a third
party helps to put it all in perspective." So choose someone
you and your fiancé are comfortable with (whether it's
a parent, friend or wedding planner) and tell them what's
on your mind. Suddenly, it may not seem so overwhelming.
Enlist a friend. Don't worry about imposing on people-your
bridesmaids probably have more free time on their hands than
you. So do yourself a favor by asking a friend for help, and
have your husband do the same, Rolfes says. Your maid of honor
can stuff the invitations, the best man will make sure all
of the groomsmen get fitted, and so on.
Get your Z's. "Too much or too little sleep can increase
stress and fatigue." So instead of staying up half the night
to search the Web for the perfect centerpiece, save it for
tomorrow. And try to skip those long afternoon naps. If you
get your eight hours of sleep at night and you're healthy,
you shouldn't need long naps.
Cut the caffeine. According to NHS, when people are
fatigued, they try to compensate by drinking too much coffee
and soda—and too much caffeine can contribute to stress.
"Instead of coffee and a bagel," start the day with a high
protein snack, perhaps a protein shake. And rather than soda,
drink water throughout the day."
Watch the munching. Often busy brides try to alleviate
their stress by overdosing on sweets and carbohydrates, which
can cause fatigue and weight gain. When you see yourself putting
on pounds before the big day, your pre-wedding stress level
is sure to shoot through the roof. So have plenty of sugar-free
gum, fruit, vegetables, and other healthy snacks on hand to
satisfy your oral fixation.
Get a move on. Everyone should have a regular exercise
routine, especially during times of stress. There's
nothing better than a morning jog or an afternoon yoga class
to shake off that wedding task tension. But if you just don't
have time for a full workout, go outside and take a short
walk."
Fill your tank. Since you're so busy with the prenuptial
planning, you may not have time to make sure you're eating
well-balanced meals. Or, Your body can become depleted from
eating too much sugar." She suggests taking a daily multiple
vitamin, a high B-complex and an absorbable calcium/magnesium
supplement to keep your energy high and your body healthy.
Loosen up. You've heard the phrase "Laughter is the
best medicine." Well, let's face it: Something unexpected
is bound to happen with all of the tasks to complete, people
to deal with and details to work out. The simplest way to
keep your cool, Rolfes says, is to have a sense of humor.
A final suggestion. During the wedding hustle and
bustle, it's easy to forget about living a healthy lifestyle.
And as you develop unhealthy habits, stress becomes more difficult
to handle. So make an extra effort to stay on top of your
diet, sleep and exercise routine.
