Can I Not Invite My Co-Workers?

When I told my co-workers about my engagement, they asked if they’d be invited. That put me in a tough spot, because I can’t afford to invite everyone from work and their spouses. What should I say to them?

As usual, honesty is the best policy. Just tell your co-workers that unfortunately, you can’t afford to invite everyone from the office—your wedding will be very small.
Then, choose any people you do invite from the office carefully. Stick with your pals that you see outside the office—if you don’t call them at home or go out socially with them for dinner or drinks, don’t send the invite. The only exceptions: you might consider putting your boss or assistant on the guest list, if you’ve got the room.
