How Can I Include Mom?

What are some great new ideas for including my mom at the wedding?

There are many unique ways to include her. Rather than just ushering her to her seat at the ceremony, lock arms with Dad and Mom and march up the aisle together. (This is already a wonderful tradition at Jewish weddings.) And if you really want her to take center stage, ask her to be a bridesmaid. Some moms are standing up with their daughters at the ceremony. And why not—after all, she’s stood by your side your entire life. Also, perhaps she’d like a turn at the mike during the reception so she can say what you and your wedding day mean to her.

If your mom’s not comfortable with these front—and-center ideas, then here’s another great way to make Mom feel like she’s a part of your big day: Pamper her. If you are planning any beauty treatments for you or your ’maids, plan the same for Mom. It’s a great way to show her she’s a VIP in the wedding party and therefore deserves special treatment.

Hadn’t planned on a big day of beauty for you and your crew? Then why not book manicures and pedicures or hair and makeup appointments for just you and your mom? This way, Mom gets you all to herself for a couple of hours. And, if she asks why she’s getting all the attention when she’s not the bride, just tell her that in your book, being the mother of the bride is a pretty big deal, too.
