Should I Warn Guests of Cocktail Reception?

We've decided to hold a cocktail reception following our wedding ceremony, but we are concerned that some guests may expect a full meal. Is it appropriate for our parents to call guests ahead of time and forewarn them?

It's a good idea to let guests know of your plan, especially since many evening receptions do include more substantial fare. Instead of leaving the job to your parents, include a note on the invitation alerting them to the type of reception you have planned. "Hors d'oeuvres reception to follow," in small type on the bottom of the card is a clear indicator of the types of nibbles that will be available.
