Fathers across the land will be able to breathe
a sigh of relief following ASDA’s announcement
today (23 January 2006) that it would start stocking
wedding dresses from George from just £60.
From Valentine’s Day 2006 brides will be
able to pick up a wedding dress at George. The
news follows Mintel research published last week
that shows that the average cost of a gown is
now £826 (up 32% from 2000 when it was £625).
Bucking the trend, the new George Bridal Collection,
will offer everything you need for a wedding meaning
that the bride and groom could walk down the aisle
for under £200.
With the centre piece of the new collection being
two cream wedding gowns designed to appeal to
both contemporary and traditional tastes, from
only £60. Adult bridesmaid dresses will
range between £30 and £35.
And for youngsters George is also offering bridesmaid
dresses for one to 10 year olds for £17-£18

in pink, silver and ivory for £18-£19.

“You’ve heard of fairytale weddings
well we think that most wedding dresses are being
sold with a fairytale price tag. With the introduction
of our new bridal collection all that is set to
change,” said George Global MD, Angela Spindler.
“No other retailer in the UK will offer
such great value without compromising on design
or quality. A wedding dress for just £60
I can hardly believe it myself,” added Angela.
