What Should I Do If My Friend Flubs My Invites?

My friend has pretty handwriting, so I asked her to address my invitations. I don't like the results. Can I ask her to redo them? Or should I have them redone by a professional?

This is a sticky situation, but it can be solved. The key here is honesty. If you have someone else redo them without telling your friend, you will get caught (because that's just the way it is!).

So sit your friend down and tell her that the invitations did not turn out how you envisioned them. When you break it to her, emphasize that if it weren't your wedding day, you wouldn't be such a perfectionist. Then give her the option of doing them over-just be very specific about what you want this time-or of bailing out. Whatever her decision, insist that you treat her to a night on the town.

If she declines a do-over, it's safe to hire someone else. If you were trying to save a little money by asking your friend in the first place, you might want to rearrange the budget to pay for a professional calligrapher.
