How Much
Time Do We Need for Planning?

My fiancé and I want a short engagement
period, but I’m worried we won’t have enough time to plan
our wedding. How should we handle this?

If you want to get married within a few months, consider bringing
in a wedding consultant to get things moving. As long as you’re
willing to compromise (on short notice, your first choices
might not be available), she can make it happen.
If a consultant isn’t in your budget, then here’s
how to do it yourselves: Start by picking the date and securing
the ceremony and reception sites. Opt for a locale that has
everything (catering, floral decorations, cake baker on premises,
tables, chairs, tents, etc.). Next, you need to line up the
rest of your vendors (officiant, photographer, DJ or band
and stationer). Ask for recommendations from recently married
friends or from your site manager; it’ll cut down on
some of the legwork.
Once the vendors are secured, decide which other elements
are most important to you and your guy. Devise your condensed
“wedding to-do” list, plan weekly goals and before
you know it, the engagement will be over and your fabulous
wedding will be here. Phew! Still not fast enough for the
two of you? Then there’s always Vegas, baby!
