What Are
Bridesmaid Bouquet Alternatives?

What are some alternatives to having
my bridesmaids carry traditional bouquets?

There are several kinds of bouquets that stray from the traditional
bunch. For example, a pomander bouquet (a ball of flowers
decorated with long ribbons or strings of beads) is the kind
of arrangement that can be carried down the aisle like a purse
instead of held close to the chest. Or a single stem, resting
in the crook of your ’maids’ arms as they march, can be just
as stunning as a nosegay bursting with blooms. And who says
they have to actually carry the flowers? Leis and delicate
floral crowns are two great alternatives.
Okay, time to think outside the floral box. For your summer
wedding, give your ’maids beautiful Oriental fans to
wave. Bright-colored sun hats or fancy paper parasols will
keep your gals shaded from the sun and smiling as they stroll
down the aisle, or let them show their true colors by carrying
big, bold feathers, giant multicolored lollipops or whimsical
pinwheels in place of traditional bouquets.
If it’s cold outside, keep your bridesmaids toasty
warm with matching faux-fur muffs. Or opt for an even warmer
idea—candles. Note: If you plan on having your bridesmaids
carry lit candles down the aisle, make sure you clear it with
the site manager first.
Also, depending on the length of your ceremony, you might
want to set up a spot where your ’maids can place the
candles while the ceremony’s in progress. Sparklers
are another hot item they can carry if you’ve decided
to exchange your vows outside. Give your girls two: one for
the way down and a second set to hold on the way back.
