Follow these
tips to ensure you don’t get tongue tied:
Don’t Drink
Don't drink too much before delivering the toast.
Bring Notes
Prepare note cards or the entire speech ahead of time.
Research
Interview the parents to learn a story about the bride or
groom as a child, or speak to the bride or groom for insight
into their relationship.
Interview the Couple
Remember to talk about both the bride and the groom, not just
the one you happen to know.
Share an Anecdote
Instead of picking a quote out of a book, aim to share an
anecdote about the couple, such as how they met. Everyone
loves a good story.
Be Tactful
Humor may come up, but don’t try to tell a joke and never
be mean. Make no references to previous relationships or bawdy
behavior.
Consider the Circumstances
This may be a second marriage. If there are children involved,
perhaps refer to a “blending of two wonderful families.”
